The name Château Pontey comes from the numerous small wooden bridges that connect the vineyards to the castle (“pont” is French for bridge). Originally called Pontet, the name was changed to Pontey with a Gascon twist. From 1932 to 2003, the estate was classified as Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, until new regulations abolished this designation.
The estate covers 14.5 hectares with vines with an average age of 35 years, mainly growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is characterized by an intense colour, ripe fruit aromas, body and depth, and can be stored for around fifteen years.
Our award-winning Château Pontey 2019 is considered one of the best wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. It is a blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot from vines over 40 years old.
This wine obtained the recognition of Cru Bourgeois in 1932, reserved for the best Château outside the Grand Cru class.
Renowned for its maturity and body, the 2019 Pontey Médoc stands out for its vibrant notes of red bramble fruits, orange peel and cedar aromas, with a finish that mixes red currants and allspice.
