Petit Verdot: Bordeaux’s bold and complex grape.

Petit Verdot

Petit Verdot is a red grape variety native to the Bordeaux region of France, known for its small, compact bunches and blue-black berries.

One of the main characteristics of Petit Verdot is its late maturation, requiring warm climates and long growing seasons to reach full maturity. This makes it a difficult variety to grow in some regions, but when it manages to fully ripen it produces wines of great intensity and complexity.

The wine obtained from Petit Verdot is usually very colourful, with deep shades of purplish red. On the nose, it presents distinctive aromas of black fruits, such as blueberries and blackberries, accompanied by spicy, floral and sometimes herbaceous notes.

On the palate, the wine is rich and structured, with robust tannins and good acidity, which give it remarkable aging potential.

Traditionally used in small quantities in Bordeaux blends to add colour, structure and aroma, Petit Verdot is now also vinified alone, revealing its full potential in single-varietal wines that express power, complexity and distinctive character.
