Molinara grape: a pillar of Veneto’s winemaking tradition.
The Molinara grape is an indigenous variety of the Veneto, mainly grown in the provinces of Verona and Mantova, and used above all in the production of red wines from Valpolicella, such as Amarone and Recioto.
Molinara is characterized by a medium-large bunch, with medium-sized round grapes and thin skin, with a dark blue color tending towards black.
Its organoleptic characteristics include a rather high acidity and a low tannin content, which contribute to creating fresh and lively wines, often used in blends to balance and enrich the structure of the wines, thanks to its acidity which contributes to better longevity and complexity of the final product.
From an agronomic point of view, Molinara is a vigorous and productive variety, but requires particular attention in vineyard management, as it is susceptible to diseases such as powdery mildew and downy mildew.
Despite these challenges, the Molinara grape is appreciated for its unique contribution to the complexity and balance of Venetian wines, keeping alive a winemaking tradition rooted in the history and culture of the region.
