Grenache: the world’s adaptable wine grape.
The Grenache grape is one of the most widely planted wine grape varieties in the world.
Originally from Spain, it has spread to many wine-growing regions, including France, Italy and the United States. Grenache is appreciated for its versatility and adaptability to different terroirs, preferring hot and dry climates.
Grenache bunches are generally large and have thin-skinned berries and a color that varies from ruby red to purple. This variety produces wines that tend to have high alcohol content, low acidity and moderate tannins, with intense aromas of ripe red fruit such as cherry, strawberry and raspberry. As they age, Grenache wines develop complex spicy and earthy notes, as well as hints of tobacco and leather.
Grenache is often used in blends with other varieties, such as Syrah and Mourvèdre, especially in the Rhône region of France. However, it can also produce excellent single-variety wines, especially in the regions of Spain and Sardinia.
In rosé, Grenache gives life to fresh and aromatic wines, highly appreciated for their balance and drinkability.
