Tokaj

The Tokaj wine region, located in north-eastern Hungary, is famous for producing high-quality sweet wines. This area boasts a unique terroir thanks to the combination of climate, soil and winemaking tradition.

The climate of Tokaj is continental, with hot summers and cold winters, and a significant temperature range between day and night. This condition favors the slow maturation of the grapes, developing complex aromas and high acidity. The mineral-rich volcanic soil gives the wines a solid structure and a particular minerality.

The main grape varieties grown in the region include Furmint, Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály (Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains), each contributing specific characteristics to Tokaj wines. Furmint, in particular, is prized for its acidity and ability to age well.

Its grapes, the typical production process and the traditional aging in oak barrels in underground cellars dug into the volcanic rock: all this gives Tokaj wines a unique depth and elegance.

The Tokaj region, with its historic terraced vineyards, ancient rock-hewn cellars and centuries-old winemaking techniques, is recognized as a Unesco World Heritage Site, underlining the cultural and historical importance of its wine production.
