Keresztúr Tokaji Late Harvest Oak Aged Private Reserve is a more delicate and refined Tokaji offering more distinctive and complex botrytis characteristics, carefully crafted to reward cellaring for those with patience, but absolutely and irresistibly delicious now.
Keresztúr Tokaji Late Harvest Oak Aged Private Reserve, which fall within the kosher sweet Tokaji category, is created at the Gróf Degenfeld Wine Estate and Castle Hotel, nestled in the town of Tarcal, just a stone’s throw from the village of Keresztúr. This delightful sweet wine embodies a ‘late harvest’ essence, signifying that the grapes are left to ripen on the vine for an extended period. Typically, they are harvested towards the end of October when they reach optimal ripeness and sweetness. This winery, where Keresztúr wine is crafted, houses a magnificent palace that earned the title of the most beautiful winery in Hungary in 2019.
Similar to its counterpart, this wine is produced from grapes affected by noble rot. After hand-harvesting, the juice is fermented in oak barrels, which imparts additional complexity and depth. The fermentation process is carefully monitored to maintain the wine’s natural acidity while allowing the oak to enhance the flavors of dried fruits, vanilla, and subtle spice. This method results in a rich, full-bodied wine with a luxurious mouthfeel.
